Hello family & friends, I am Jenna Daley, Karen Hannigan's daughter. Many of you know my mother, Karen; to know her is to know true light, love, and joy. Recently, while summering in Maine, working to help other families with childcare, eldercare, and support, she began to feel symptoms of what felt like an UTI. Through a whirlwind of a few days, including an outpatient procedure, doctors confirmed that it was not a UTI, but her symptoms were in fact the result of Pancreatic Cancer. Hearing those words brought a storm of emotions for her including anger, sadness, apprehension, fear, and resilience. Karen has decided to receive treatment in Maine and and begins Chemotherapy at the end of July. During her treatment, Karen is staying with her son, Scott Hannigan, his partner Kelly Donahue, and her newest little granddaughter, Lily. Karen has met each piece of news, doctor's meeting, and symptom with strength, bravery, and resiliency. To say we are in awe of her at times is an understatement. Many of you know 20 years ago this September, we lost Karen's husband, Scott and I's dad to cancer. Although this stirs up many mixed emotions for us all, we have been hopeful to hear all the changes that have been happening in the world of medicine since then. We are hopeful. We are encouraged by doctors stating Karen's goal is cure! We will come together to help her any way we can. I know you, her community, is truly magnificent. I know she will want and need you all for visits, messages, and prayers (please all the prayers!). We will do our best to keep everyone updated and informed. Karen is a warrior. She is strong and willing to fight this fight. When Chemo starts at the end of July, she will receive treatment every two weeks for a period of time, followed by scans, and hopefully surgery to remove tumor on her pancreas, followed by more chemo. We are unsure of what this road looks like, but we do know we are rallying around her, sharing the love, support, and joy she has blessed us with over the years! ***We have set up this page as we are unsure of what costs are in Karen's future, we don't want this to be a roadblock for her. While in treatment she is unable to be working and will therefore loose income to help pay for her apartment and other amenities. We are thankful and appreciate any and all support! *** Thank you for being part of her story.
