My close friend Melanie Araujo son Justin 18 years old was diagnosed with Advanced Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma with metastasis to the lymph nodes and chest three months before graduating from high school. He underwent two major surgeries each five hours long with complications removing 48 lymph nodes and his Thyroid. He had a staph infection after the first surgery with hospitalization and Pneumonia after the second operation. The next step in his treatment is Radiation which requires a special diet, back and forth to Boston Children’s hospital for labs, CT scans, nuclear medicine, body scans, and Radiation. During the radiation prep the Ct scan showed multiple spots in the lungs which was found that the cancer metastasized to his lungs. This will be taxing on Melanie during this time related to expenses like missing work to take care of Justin, cost of gas, food, and living expenses. At the most she is requesting to keep Justin in your thoughts and prayers! Justin is a great kid who is trying to keep his spirits up! Melanie is a nurse who is a hard worker, as well as a single mother doing everything she can to take care of Justin,her other children and her obligations. She would never ask for help but if we could help her out in any way! There is no other person to me who could use it more during this difficult time!
