UPDATE 8/18: Jude’s surgery went well. They had to remove a portion of his skull to place all the electrodes on his brain. Understandably his head hurts and they are having a little trouble keeping him comfortable as he is experiencing nausea and vomiting. He also doesn’t want to eat much because they had to cut through some muscles that are attached to his jaw, so it hurts to chew. He’s also incredibly bored as he’s confined to a bed and he cannot move his head from its spot and they won’t let him sit up. The good news is they have captured some seizure activity and it is very clear that they are originating from a specific spot in the brain, this means the chances of the surgery being successful is good! The doctors have moved up his surgery date to Monday (8/21) morning where they will remove the electrodes and then resect (cut out) the area that is causing the seizures. They are however hoping to be able to capture a few more seizures on the monitors before the surgery. UPDATE 8/14: Jude and Doug have landed in Seattle! Thanks to your donations, they were able to buy some comfort and entertainment items to keep him busy the next two weeks. Pre op appointments begin tomorrow with the first 4 hour pre surgery (SEEG) happening Wednesday. Please continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers!  OP: My name is Theresa Walton, and I have had the privilege of knowing the Saunders family for over 10 years! They are very dear to our hearts and those who know them! They are a homeschool family who live their faith deeply. This fundraiser is to raise money for their oldest son’s brain surgery. Here is Jude’s story: Jude began having seizures at the age of 6. He was diagnosed with epilepsy shortly after his 7th birthday. Over the past 9 years his seizures have been well controlled with medication. This medication however is extremely expensive. After extensive testing, doctors have determined that Jude’s seizures are originating from a specific area of the brain (right frontal lobe). Since the seizures are originating from one specific area, his specialist have decided that surgery is the best option for Jude’s future. They are hopeful that this surgery will stop his seizures altogether! Jude’s surgery is scheduled for August 16, where he will have a SEEG so the doctors can get the most accurate picture of the origin location of the seizures. Then on August 23, Jude will have the surgery to eliminate the areas of origin. These surgeries will take place at Seattle Children’s hospital. The doctors are expecting Jude to be there for a minimum of 2 weeks. The Saunders will have travel, lodging and food expenses as the will be traveling from Caldwell, ID. Mom, Dad, Jude and new baby Elias will be having to leave their other children to make this exciting, nerve racking journey. Please consider donating if you can! Prayers are also requested!
