Hi, my name is Elissa Williams and I am reaching out to family and community to raise funds for my sister Joy Wakefield. Back in early February, my sister Joy called me and I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I've always known my sister to be active, healthy, and have no medical issues. She was letting me know she was diagnosed with Stage 1 Breast Cancer. Fortunately, this is the best type of diagnosis one could hope for as it was caught early and isn't aggressive. Still, it is a cancer diagnosis and with that comes all the fears, decisions, and financial sacrifices that have to be made. After extensive scans, MRIs, biopsies, and appointments with multiple breast surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, naturopathic oncologists, and therapists Joy feels in her heart that the conventional treatment path is not for her. She has done the research, put into practice what she has learned and after an additional scan, her tumor has not spread since her first diagnosis. While this is great news, Joy understands that she not only needs to stop her cancer from spreading but heal it entirely. For her, this means partnering with doctors who have a holistic/integrative approach to healing. After more research, a lot of prayers, and speaking with a friend whose diagnosis was further advanced than hers, Joy desires to seek treatment at Hope4Cancer in Mexico. As one might expect, this alternative route is not covered by insurance, comes with additional travel and lodging costs, and will require more time away from work. As a single mother this exceeds what Joy can come up with on her own. I recently visited Joy in Alaska, and I could sense she needs our love and support more than ever. Please join me, however big or small, by supporting her in this fight against cancer. Thank you and God Bless, Elissa Hope4Cancer.com
