Dear Friends, Family, and Generous Hearts, I stand before you today wearing many hats, but one of the proudest and most cherished hats I wear is that of a big sister. Within the depths of my heart, there resides an unbreakable bond with my little brother, Joshua. His incredible talents, kind-hearted nature, and generous spirit have always inspired and touched the lives of those around him. To know him is to love him. Yet, amidst the joyous moments we shared, there was always one thing that Joshua held onto with an unwavering grip—his favorite snack, the beloved Muddy Bears. Life has recently dealt Joshua a devastating blow. He was involved in an accident (through no fault of his) that left him in a coma for over a week, forever altering his life's path. However, through it all, we celebrate his survival with every breath we take, as there were many moments when we thought we were losing him. Now, Joshua faces a monumental challenge—one that stretches beyond the boundaries of what I alone can provide. He stares at towering medical bills, a lengthy road to recovery, and a desperate need for assistance. Throughout our lives, I've always been able to come to Joshua's aid, from mending his scraped knees as a child with an ace bandage and a trip to Rita's Water Ice, to comforting him after a dirt bike accident with ice packs, a visit to Toys R' Us, and hours of playing Sonic the Hedgehog. But today, I humbly admit that his needs exceed my capabilities. That's why I reach out to all of you—our beloved family, friends, and compassionate souls who understand the power of collective care. For me, lending a helping hand has never been a mere obligation; it is my life's passion. I wholeheartedly believe that we were placed on this earth to make a profound difference in each other's lives, and today, I ask for your support in making that difference for my little brother. Though he may no longer resemble the young boy who raced toy cars through the backyard, Joshua remains the same spirited soul who captivated our hearts. Every contribution you make will directly go towards his medical care and the pressing needs that accompany his journey to recovery. I am utilizing every resource available to me as a classroom teacher to support Joshua, but the weight of this burden necessitates a collective effort. As a teacher, I've been blessed with the opportunity to impact countless lives.
