Hi, my name is Desiree and I'm starting this fundraiser for my husband's best friend Jon. Jon is a loving dad, partner, friend, son and so much more. For someone relatively young, Jon has struggled with many health problems in his adult life. At age 29, Jon was diagnosed for the first time with stage 4 testicular cancer. This was a scary time for a young parent, but after many chemo treatments and surgery, Jon persevered and beat his cancer. Unfortunately, Jon's good health was short lived. At age 35, Jon was again diagnosed with cancer. This time it was stage 3 bladder cancer. Once again, Jon suffered through a long bout of chemo and surgeries and his cancer was able to be treated. Life just started to get back to normal for Jon, when he started to experience extreme pain and sickness. It turned out that the mesh used in one of Jon's prior surgeries tore a hole in his small intestine. Two colon resections were needed to get it out. To replace the mesh, that was causing the intestinal holes , the medical team working on Jon, put in a hybrid mesh that was supposed to dissolve after 18 months. Once again, Jon became very sick and it was determined that he contracted E Coli infection from the hybrid mesh. Jon was critically ill throughout his mesh related problems and he almost died. He has had chronic problems ever since that prohibit him from normal day-to-day activities. Jon was getting accustomed to his restricted lifestyle, when in December 2024, he went to the clinic complaining of back/side pain. His lab work showed alarming blood count numbers and he was sent to the U of M medical facility in Minneapolis for further testing. Unbelievably, he was diagnosed with an advanced stage of very aggressive Multiple Myeloma. The medical team at the U Of M informed Jon that there is no cure for his Multiple Myeloma, but instead they would try to maintain his quality of life and the rate at which his leukemia would progress. He started his first chemo treatment December 15th 2024. The goal was to target the cancer cells enough to be considered a candidate for a bone marrow transplant. This past spring (2024) Jon found out he was accepted for a bone marrow transplant and would begin the process sometime in June/July. This would require Jon to stay at the U of M in Minneapolis for a minimum of 6 weeks. Jon completed the last of his chemo treatments for that round and then headed to the U of M. The first steps of the bone marrow transplant were many tests/lab work and prepping Jon for the transplant. Unfortunately, Jon was only a couple weeks in when his lab results came back. In the short period of time when he stopped chemo while waiting for the transplant, his cancer cells skyrocketed. His doctor told him that his Myeloma is much more aggressive than they originally thought. Jon is unable to get the bone marrow transplant at this time now and instead has to start another, more aggressive round of chemo. Jon has been very sick and and has been on an emotional roller coaster. Up until last week he still tried to pick up some shifts at work, but his body is not up to working at this point. Throughout all of Jon's struggles, he has never complained and never once asked for financial help. In fact, he almost always goes through life with a smile on his face. His situation has become increasingly worse and he needs help with living expenses. Life has been unfair to him. He has spent the last 15 + years worrying about his life expectancy and now he is facing the scariest situation yet. If we could help ease some of his financial burdens I think it would greatly reduce some of his anxiety. I ask that you consider donating if you are able. Otherwise please share so our fundraiser can reach a wide audience. Most importantly, please keep Jon, everyone who loves him and his medical team in your prayers. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. I know it was a lengthy read.
