Hi! My name is Mona. I am doing this fundraiser for my brother on behalf of his daughter Andrea Evangelista who has been by his bedside from day one. This fundraiser is for John Evangelista, who is dealing with the aftermath of a massive stroke which occurred unexpectedly on June 20, 2024. For the first few weeks, things were touch and go in terms of survival. The doctors were grim. Thankfully, John is a fighter. He came off the ventilator within weeks and now faces a long period of rehabilitation. He’s barely able to speak, and his motor skills are minimal, but his heart is in this struggle. Mentally, John is “aware.” Aware of his situation, grateful to be alive, dealing with the reality and bravely facing the difficult road ahead. Now, the doctors are cheering on John’s slow but steady progress. John is a very special person. He’s a veteran and has served as a soldier in the Army National Guard, a former customs agent on Guam and, since 2016 a federal law enforcement agent in Hawaii. Despite his imposing physical appearance, and his law enforcement background, he’s a classic “teddy bear” of a man. His good humor and easy smile are treasured by all who know him. He’s a cherished colleague, son, grandfather, brother, and loving dad to two daughters and three sons. Despite being a gym rat in excellent physical shape, John’s stroke has occurred at the age of fifty one, in the prime of life. We never know what hand we’ll be dealt with, but with your support this will help him get through this! Now the real work begins. John has recently been discharged from Queens Medical Hospital in Hawaii and is being challenged with intense therapy in a rehabilitation facility. There are expenses that insurance won’t cover. There’s the loss of reliable income from work. He is the sole provider for two children under age 10. John’s entire life has been spent in service to his country and his family. It’s not in his nature to ask for help, but the need is great, so we – his family -- are asking on his behalf. Please, be as generous as you can! And if you are unable to make a donation, sharing this post is another way you can help. On behalf of John and the family, your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you ❤️
