Loyalty is defined as "a strong feeling of support or allegiance." This is the best word to describe Jodi Bixler. She dedicated over 30 years to children with disabilities, working at the Berks County Intermediate Unit and Exeter Township School District. Her loyalty extends beyond her job into the community, where she has volunteered countless hours serving her church, Community UCC, and other community events like the BeltSander Race at Bertie's Inn. She has touched many lives and now we have the opportunity to touch hers! On May 18, Jodi entered St. Joseph's emergency department in agonizing pain. The doctors discovered her colon had ruptured and she was rushed into surgery for the next seven hours. In the ICU after surgery, she was unable to come off the ventilator for four days, due to the full-body infection which had spread to her blood, called sepsis. Since then she has been in a revolving door between the hospital and Complete Care Berkshire for rehab. The surgery and the initial rupture have left her with a large wound and a source of great pain. She has struggled to eat and keep her food down, which has led to extreme weight loss and significant fatigue. While her body has been unable to heal properly from surgery, an inadvertent pathway for another life-threatening infection has required her to be transferred to Hershey Medical Center for a second surgical procedure. Because of the seriousness of her condition which will require a lengthy time for recovery, the family is reaching out to ask for help. In her current medical condition, she will be unable to return to work for the foreseeable future. We want to make sure that her household can still run smoothly in terms of monthly bills and upkeep. Any amount you can donate would be greatly appreciated, if you know Jodi personally you know that she is always looking for ways to help people in her personal life and at work. Now is the time to show Jodi how much we appreciate all she has done for our community and its children!
