Hi guys, I am starting a fund raiser for my beautiful sister Jessica sheen. For the past 10+ years I have watched my sister go through a series of health events that I have watched slowly deteriorate her quality of life. What started as Bell’s palsy at the young age of 12, onto severe eruption of cysts in the ovaries - which resulted in the need for a hysterectomy after 15 years of unbearable pain, to now a possibly fatal brain condition. 4 years ago, Jess started getting blurred vision, black outs and fainting randomly. She headed into the local optometrist to get an eye check where they advised her that her eye pressure was extremely high. After immediately sending her to the hospital for further testing they found a tumour, a non cancerous tumour, but non the less just as dangerous. The doctors advised that the only cure for this condition would be to insert a shunt into the brain to drain the fluid that her body was unable to perform naturally. This would then put my sister and her small family out of pocket 10s of thousands - but it was worth it because now she was going to be fixed right? Wrong. Years, $100,000 and 6 brain operations later, Jess still hasn’t been cured. Her rare condition is not well known and the ‘best’ neurosurgeon in Queensland is now out of ideas with how her condition can be treated. Fast forward to 6 months ago, Jess had another brain operation, an operation which took her out of work for 6 weeks. While she was in recovery she found that her head still wasn’t quite feeling the way it should, but like the rest of us she has been told to trust the medical advice of professionals - professionals who haven’t believed her when expressing the extent of her pain. After being ignored, one afternoon Jess faints to the floor in front of her 8 year old son. But this time it’s different, she starts to shake and her eyes are now rolling to the back of her head. Jess’s son Jax, being the amazing trooper he is knew exactly who to call, 000. Now fast forward 3 months, these seizures still are not cured. In fact, they are now extremely worse. On the 28th of July, Jess had 9 seizures in one day. Seizures which stop her breathing for minutes at a time. Fortunately, Jess has been in the care of paramedics during the times she wasn’t breathing but what if she wasn’t? What if she was home alone? The hard truth is that she wouldn’t be with us right now. The mental and financial strain this has put on Jess and her amazing partner Matt is unfathomable. Her little family strives to keep Jess’s head up during all these years but at what cost? Matt wants his loving, beautiful partner back and the kids just want their loving mother. So where do we go from here? Well, we have been advised that there is a surgeon in Sydney who could potentially help Jess’s rare condition. With a little bit more knowledge, this man could be the answer to all our prayers. But this will cost $35,000 of out of pocket fees. With Jess and her partner already taking out their super early to use on previous operations, the couple are completely dumbfounded with how they are meant to come up with this sort of money. But I am hoping, with the help of the community, we can help make this happen ❤️ Anybody who has had the absolute privilege of knowing Jess, knows she is one of the most loving, generous and positive people I know. Even through all this she has continued to work a job, look after her children and be the amazing wonderful human she is. Due to current circumstances with her seizures Jess has had to give up her career in swim teaching, which she loved dearly. This has put a further financial strain on herself and her family to keep themselves moving forward. I love my sister, and I just want to see her thrive, because someone like her deserves nothing more out of this life. Please help me and my family get Jess the help she needs ❤️
