I am starting this campaign for my sister, Maureen, and the third of her 13 children, Jaxon. In August this year two of the children started college, Estela in NC and Jaxon at Nazareth in Rochester. They both are great runners and track is their life both in high school and now at college. Jaxon had been having intermittent belly issues beginning in September, nausea, cramping, and just feeling like he had a stomach bug. October 3rd at his track meet Jaxon passed out after his race and the saga began. He was brought to the ER at Strong Memorial with severe stomach pain and vomiting. X-rays and testing was done with no obvious cause determined. They told him it could be the start of appendicitis and to return if it got worse. Approximately 12 hours later he was rushed back via ambulance. He was then admitted and testing began. Maureen, having 8 children still at home for her to care for was, as you can imagine , feeling worried and helpless. Thankfully, I was able to get in my car and drive the 4 plus hour trip to be with my very sick Nephew. Days ran into one but I think it was Tuesday that they discovered he had a malrotation of his intestines. This condition is very unusual for a child-adult Jaxons age so the surgeons weren't convinced surgery was the answer. I certainly was, as I watched Jaxon writhe in pain day after day. Towards the end of that week the physicians were confident that Jaxons problem was severe constipation. After cleaning him out , he perked up, was allowed to eat slowly and released on Sunday, October 11th. I was able to return home on Friday as Maureen had finagled childcare for the littles. She brought him back to his dorm and made her way back to Saratoga , thankful that Jaxons ordeal was over. Sadly, it wasn't. Jaxon called his Mom a mere 20 hours later with vomiting and the severe pain reaccuring. As Maureen started trying to figure this out, speaking with her Dr friends, I jumped in my car once again to be with my buddy. Those of you who know Maureen, know her medical nursing background. Not sure if this helped or hurt her knowing what "could" be wrong. On Wednesday the 14th Jaxon had major abdominal exploratory surgery. A small malrotation was corrected , appendix removed, and swollen lymph nodes removed. We then began the 8 day wait for the biopsy results of the lymph nodes, praying it wasn't the "C" word. Jaxon was recovering nicely, each day growing stronger and starting to walk more with the goal of getting back to running!!!!With all praises to God the biopsys came back negative for Lymphoma but as reactive swollen lymph nodes, cause unknown. Ss Fast forward to Wednesday evening the 21st and Jaxon was becoming disoriented and the excruciating pain was back. Feeling very discouraged, Jaxon has had "enough" . TESTING is starting all over with no end in site. He is so weak, loosing weight, and unable to walk without a lot of assistance. On top of that no food for three weeks. My sister Maureen has never been one to ask for help but is really struggling right now. She has to pay for childcare, travel back and forth to Rochester, food while there and incidentals for her children at home. She hasn't even thought of medical bills not covered by insurance. If anyone reading this feels the need to help it would be so greatly appreciated. $5 will buy a coffee and a bagel or a couple gallons of gas. $10 would pay one toll to get to Rochester. Every little bit helps take the financial stress off Maureen and Jaxon who is so well aware of the financial burden his illness is causing. Most of all ,they need your prayers for healing and answers.Thankyou from the bottom of my heart.Becky Benkoski
