Hi, my name is Karen, I'm fundraising to support Jared Moore while battling with Spindle Cell Rhabdomyosarcoma. (SC-RMS) is a rare variant of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma that has a predilection for young males and most commonly involves the paraventricular region followed by the head and neck. Children and adolescents diagnosed with SC-RMS have greater chances of survival compared to adults. The most common symptoms of SC-RMS are lumps or swelling in the head or neck. Adults diagnosed with SC-RMS are exceedingly rare, with a very low survival rate due to the rapid growth. Less than 10% of adults are diagnosed with this rare cancer, which grows rapidly and is usually located in difficult-to-treat body parts. Adults battling this rare cancer have a Two to Seven-year survival rate depending on the stage when diagnosed. Stages I, II, & III have a 60 to 90 % survival rate as a child or adolescent, and as adults are less than 45%. Being diagnosed with stage IV survival rate drops to 20-25%. This is not the first battle with cancer, it's his fourth. In 2004, a wrestling match with his nephew presented a lump protruding from the lower right side of his neck. He figured it was just from all the horseplaying. The lump shrank and changed periodically but never fully went away. In May 2004, after a biopsy, he had surgery to remove two cysts, and during surgery, the surgeons found a third cyst. Jared thought he had healed and had his life back to normal. At a bookstore, Jared sneezed hard, could barely stand, and went home to rest. Still feeling bad in the abdomen, and suffering from fatigue in 2006, went to see the doctor, and was given antibiotics for what the doctor thought was Mono. However, later that year was diagnosed with Leukemia. Jared was hospitalized for three months to go through a 3-month cycle of chemo. Eventually, Jared was able to graduate and walk across the state to receive his diploma. In August of 2007 was able to start college, with a precautionary regimen of drugs to ensure he would stay in remission from Leukemia. 15 years later living in Colorado, a new beast begins to attack Jared. A routine dental checkup, causes an alarm to have an X-ray done. A small spot was found on his lower right jawbone towards the hing. In April 2024, his lower back two teeth were removed as well as the mass which was causing concern. The doctors thought Jared would be free from more intrusive masses. Within 3-4 months later Jared developed more masses. In January 2024, Jared was told he had to have a right mandibulectomy which would involve removing his right fibula from his leg to bone graph to his lower jaw. In December of 2024 Jared moved to Kentucky to start over and what he thought would be a happy healthy life. Until his Jaw pops and becomes out of place, making Jared go through another battle again. This time his titanium plate is broken and the fibula is missing. Screws and hardware is beginning to go into the meat of his neck. All of this going on, has Jared meeting with an Oncologist, suggesting more chemo to start July 10th, 2024. 19 years ago Jared's battle started with cysts growing in his throat, three years of dealing with leukemia through chemotherapy, and now has to battle Rhabdomyosarcoma. No one should have to battle cancer at any age, especially at the age of 34. The funds that will be raised, will be used to assist Jared with medical bills, and living expenses, due to his employer will not allow him to work while battling this rare form of cancer.
