In January of 2015, the Mooney family took the next step on what has been Jamie's lifelong journey. This step was a major surgery meant to correct the inward turn of his legs and allow him to walk correctly for the first time in his life. It is called Bilateral Derotational Femoral Osteotomy. This journey has not been without its trials. In addition to the emotional toll, there has been a large financial cost even with insurance. They have traveled 6 hours to South Carolina four times already with at least two more trips required. Though Shriners pays for gas, they do not pay for wear and tear on the car, food, or private insurance payments. Also, in order for the surgery results to reach their full potential Jamie needs therapy for a minimum of 16-18 weeks. (2 days each week for PT, at least 2 days for OT, and 1 day for Sensory Integration Desensitization Therapy). That is over 60 therapy session in addition to the 15 he had in one week's time at Shriners. Insurance will only cover 20...yes, that's right TWENTY, less than 1/3. The Mooneys are my best friends. You will never meet a more giving family. They are always there for someone else, no matter the personal cost and God has used them to bless so many. Please help me give back to a family that has given so much. There is a cost update. Therapy will cost between $4000 and $5500, the rest will go toward four new tires for the vehicle that makes the trips and a new bed for Jamie with better support for his back, hips and legs.
