Our son Jake is 6 years old and has severe quadriplegic cerebral palsy (CP), and uncontrolled epileptic seizures caused by meningitis at birth. We are asking for your help and support in getting Jake stem cell treatment not available in the UK. This type of cellular treatment comes with no known side effects. This treatment has a good possibility of helping Jake increase his abilities. We know this is not a cure but it may be a new beginning for Jake. Cellular treatments of this type are not available in the UK and we need to travel to Panama City in Panama to receive this treatment. Jake was a potential candidate for a cellular therapy trial at Duke University in North Carolina, but was not selected as his CP was considered too severe to take part in the trial. This was a great disappointment to the whole family. After a lot of hard work, we were able to raise enough money to take Jake to Panama in August 2016, and we saw positive results from this: Jake became more alert - especially at school, where they were astonished by the improvements in his vocalisations and interactions with classmates- and he had more movment in his left hand.  Given the success of the treatment last year, we want to take Jake back to Panama to get more stem cells. However, stem cell treatment requires private funding, and it costs about £17,000 for the treatment, flights and accommodation – and we do not have this amount of money.Any funds that we receive over and above his needs for this treatment will go towards speech, language and physio therapies to help Jake reach his potential from the cellular treatment.
