Dear Friends and Family, I hope this message finds you well. Today, I want to share with you a part of my life's journey that has been both challenging and enlightening. Recently, I was diagnosed with stage 3 esophageal cancer, which has brought about unexpected changes in my life. I knew I needed to be closer to family and quality treatment so I broke my lease in Seattle and relocated back to Portland Oregon. Unfortunately, two days after moving into my new apartment I was laid off from my employment as they readied their company for acquisition. As I currently go through chemotherapy and radiation, the simple act of swallowing has become impossible, and I am now nourishing myself through a J-tube. It's been an adjustment, to say the least, but I'm learning to find gratitude in the small things and appreciate the unique perspective it brings to life. The need for connections has never been more apparent. And the silly way we try and do everything on our own in this country becomes even more ridiculous. In the near future, I have an esophagectomy scheduled, where my esophagus will be removed and replaced by stretching out my stomach up to my neck. It's a daunting prospect, but I'm trying to remain hopeful, focusing on the possibility of healing and recovery. One of the challenges I face is keeping up with rent and other monthly bills while navigating through medical treatments and their associated costs. I have qualified for disability, but that won't kick in until November, and unemployment disqualifies you from receiving it. That's why I'm reaching out to my loved ones for support. If you're able to, any contribution, no matter how small, would be incredibly helpful and deeply appreciated. This journey has reminded me of the power of humor and positivity in the face of adversity. Even when things seem tough, I try to find moments of laughter and joy. It truly makes a difference in lifting my spirits and those around me. Your encouragement, well-wishes, and kind thoughts have been a source of strength throughout this process. I'm thankful to have such a caring and supportive network of friends and family. Your presence in my life means more to me than words can express. If you're unable to contribute financially, please know that your emotional support is just as valuable. Your messages, phone calls, and even a simple smile remind me that I'm not alone in this fight. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for being a part of my life. Together, we can face this challenge with hope and resilience. I'm looking forward to brighter days ahead and sharing them with all of you. With heartfelt gratitude, Jacob Moran
