I will be running the Bath Half marathon on the 15th October 2024 to raise money for Young Lives vs Cancer (Formerly known as CLIC Sargent). On the 29th May 23, my eight year old nephew's life was turned upside down with a Leukaemia diagnosis Jack was immediately admitted to Bristol Children’s Hospital where he underwent surgery and started his Chemotherapy treatment right away. A cancer diagnosis is heart breaking and watching the world of my family shatter into a million pieces hurts beyond words. Unfortunately, there isn't a great deal I can do except be there for them as we have to trust in the amazing medical professionals caring for Jack, but it did get me thinking about things that I CAN do and that is why I have chosen to run the Bath half for Young Lives vs Cancer. Whilst Jack was admitted to Bristol Children’s Hospital, Chars & Joss (Jack's parents, also my sister & brother-in-law) were allocated a room at a nearby CLIC House, they would take it in turns to stay at Jack's bedside overnight and the room would allow the other a shower and a night's sleep in order to be strong for Jack. It also allowed them to spend time with their daughter Immy and spend time as a family. This was an unbelievable help at a time when they needed it most. Little did they know that this was just the beginning of the support they would receive from Young Lives vs Cancer. Since Jack's diagnosis they have been allocated a Young Lives social worker and the support has been unbelievable whether it be financial, psychological or physical support. These are just a few of the ways in which Young Lives supports families going through such a tough ordeal. Please help me to raise money for such an awesome charity. I for one, am very grateful for the support they have shown to my family and would like to raise as much as I can in order for them to continue supporting families in the future.
