This is Jack’s story (provided by his parents) *All funds raised will go to Jack’s Mom & Dad* (Payten Martel & Kyle Sauve) On July 2nd, Jack was brought in to the ER in Timmins as he had some swelling in his face, stomach and legs. After some blood and urine tests, he was diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome. Unlike the typical case of nephrotic syndrome, Jack had and continues to have blood in his urine and they are unsure why. The cause is still unknown, as we are waiting for testing. Jack was transferred to CHEO on July 3rd via ORNGE. Since being admitted, Jack has been for many tests to help diagnose him including a CT scan, a chest X-ray, multiple abdominal ultrasounds, dozens of blood tests, albumin infusions and a kidney biopsy. Jack is currently being treated with Lasix to help him pee and reduce swelling; Prednisone (a steroid), Lansoprazole (to coat his stomach and help prevent ulcers), Nifedipine (to help with high blood pressure) as well Vitamin C & D. Since being admitted, Jack has gained approximately 15-18lbs in fluid. We are currently waiting on the final results of the kidney biopsy to narrow down the cause of the nephrotic syndrome. It seems like it could have been caused by PIGN (post infectious glomerulonephritis), minimal change disease, an auto immune disorder or a few other possibilities. Return home is TBD. They are working on getting Jack’s blood pressure down and regulated. Hoping to wean him off the Lasix in the coming days to see if he can urinate more frequently on his own. Biopsy results will also provide more clarity and a concrete care plan going forward. Funds raised would be used to keep their family together during this difficult time, (they have not left his side) including missed work, gas and travel expenses, lodging (Ronald McDonald), food, follow up appointments, care and any added expenses that may arise. We will update you as we get results. In the meantime this little champ will continue his journey with a fighting spirit.
