Dear Friends and Family, I would like to speak to you about two dear friends of mine. These ladies are not only two of the most amazing women I have had the pleasure of being friends with, but they are also sisters. As we all know life can throw challenges our way, some are more difficult than others. With that said I have some unfortunate news to share, Vanessa and her sister have both received a breast cancer diagnosis within the last 2 months. At the age of 48, Vanessa has built a beautiful and full life. Together with her partner Shawn, they co-parent with her ex-husband Tim, their two sons Ethan and Cole who are 14 and 15 years old. Vanessa and Shawn also have a 5-year-old son named Jack. Vanessa has dedicated her life to raising her children, creating a loving home and fun environment always for those around her. If you are looking for her at one of the boys’ basketball games, she will not be hard to find. Win or lose, she will be the loudest mom on the sidelines cheering them on and giving them advice. Even if the coach hasn’t asked for it, or if she hasn’t been kicked out first! Her sister is a 51-year-old devoted and loving mother to 2 beautiful women; Ashley and Kaila, and 7 grandchildren ages 1 ½ years old to 15 years old. Her friends would describe her as an extremely beautiful, passionate, and determined woman. She has had a lifelong passion for healthy living and fitness and has inspired many of her friends and family to live a healthier lifestyle along the way. Family is also a priority for her, she has spent the past 11 years travelling to Calgary to visit her children and grandchildren. She has been going there at least once every 2 weeks because as she always says, “the grand babies make her heart happy”. This is why she has chosen to have the surgery in Calgary. She needed to be with her family during this process. Upon her diagnosis, Vanessa's sister encouraged her to get tested, which resulted in Vanessa catching her own diagnosis early. This is a stark reminder that all women need to follow their instincts, get the testing they feel they need, and take their health in their own hands. Soon Vanessa will be undergoing a single mastectomy with reconstructive surgery in Edmonton; her sister will be undergoing a double mastectomy with reconstructive surgery booked for August 9th in Calgary. This is not the first time their family has faced a cancer diagnosis. Their mother is also a survivor of breast cancer. She had a lumpectomy 7 years ago, and thankfully remains cancer free today. These sisters are going through one of the most difficult times in their life, all while trying to set an example of strength and courage for their children and grandchildren. As expected, this an emotional time for the whole family. Always smiling, their positive outlook has been nothing but an inspiration. Anybody who knows them knows how their energy, love for one other, and the shining light within them both will help carry them through. Today we are asking you to share your love and prayers for these two brave women. If you are able to donate to this campaign, know that your contribution will help alleviate some of the burden including medications, rehab, living expenses and any other unforeseen costs. This will allow them and their families to prepare for their surgeries and give them the best chance at a full recovery without additional stress. Thank you for being a part of this journey, we encourage you to share this Go Fund Me with others. Love and Thanks.
