My brother and sister-in-law went from unexpectedly having to bury their daughter Dakota on October 8, 2024, to burying her Mom in November 2024 due to Covid causing a stroke and Heart Attack within 3 days of getting Covid; if this was not enough tragedy for one family they have been given more. My brother got Covid at a small family dinner (3 people only) with our other brother in April 2024 who had Covid but did not know it just felt fatigued and a little run down. Little did they know that this would lead to a fight of a lifetime. Due to a negligent PCM and Oncologist in WV who first said no way it is Leukemia and diagnosed him as Sarcoidosis, to fungal infection, to MDS (conveniently doing a study on), to popping his head in a door to say I was wrong, it is some type of acute leukemia and admitting you on Monday for a 7/3 protocol never once assessing or explaining anything to my brother or sister in law. With this being said my sister-in-law called hysterically crying and I took over brought him down to my area worked him up in 1 week and within the next week I got him scheduled with one of the best Leukemia specialists in the US Dr. Emily Curran at University Cincinnati Hoxworth Center in Cincinnati Ohio. Where the medical expenses will surpass millions of dollars. They risk losing their home and tattoo shop due to not being able to run it while in another state as my brother is fighting for his life. They applied for SSDI and are nervous since short-term disability runs out in November and it usually takes up to 2 yrs for SSDI to be approved. They have applied for hotel special pricing under the cancer center which is $70 a night 30 min away from the hospital due to the hospital cancer hotel is $130 a night which they do not have. He has been out of work from the coal mines since May 4, 2024, after trying to work and nearly collapsing while he was working against medical advice because he is raising his grandson whose mom was their daughter that passed away and his estranged drug-addicted father passed away unexpectedly the day my brother was diagnosed. My brother Steve was working in the coal mines while his wife Lorna was trying to start up their dream of owning their tattoo shop which pandemic caused a huge financial delay nearly closing them down permanently instead my brother worked full time in the coal mines getting black lung to provide for his family and keeping the dream alive. I am asking for anything to help keep their dream alive and keep his wife by his side while they fight together to save him. We lost our mother to cancer in 2013 so he is well aware his fight will be long, hard and has financially drained them already and we are just getting started. He will be admitted Thursday, July 27, 2024 for 4-6 weeks or longer with no days off for the first round of 2 to 3 chemo’s at one time depending if his FT3 is positive or not. I diagnosed AML for 36% of his cancerous cells and less than 1% are CLL/SLL. IF the FT3 is positive it will add the 3rd chemo and is the most lethal of them all from what we were told by Dr. Curran. If you can find it in your heart to help my brother and sister-in-law, we would greatly appreciate it their grandson cannot handle another loss especially the only stable male figure he has had in his life. We have him in counseling to help deal with all of the losses he has had and the cancer my brother has but he is struggling rightfully so. We also are working on designing T-shirts along with other things to raise money to help them keep a roof over their head, Lorna by my brother’s side and keep Cobra insurance starting November 4th which will be over $900 a month on top of his copays and deductibles. I will post where to buy the shirts once it is secured. Thank you for reading and helping every dollar counts and please keep them in your prayers. They were not about to ask for help but after all the loss and tragedy they have faced I couldn't let them go homeless.
