Hi I’m Renel, Ico’s mom. Ico is a handsome four-year-old black cat I adopted in the streets of Cambodia and have raised into a remarkably social, loving, adventure cat in San Francisco. Last Tuesday while I was out of town, Ico suddenly had to go the hospital. He had an enormous inflamed bladder with urinary blockages—a common illness that is fatal if not treated within 18-24 hours of onset, and usually takes just 1-2 days to resolve with medical intervention. His condition however worsened and developed into an infection that caused more severe bladder inflammation where parts of his bladder wall are falling off and causing more blockages of his urethra. As of now, I have covered up to 7 days of care, which has already totaled to over $14,000 in intensive treatments, and his intensive care may need to continue for several more days (an additional >$2k per day). Antibiotics, steroids, gabapentin and strong painkillers are being administered as well as his blockages being manually managed via IV fluids and catheter flushing every few hours around the clock. Frequent tests are being run. Despite these medical setbacks, Ico has persevered and been perky and affectionate. Since I got back to town he is doing well with treatment and in great spirits. The vets have also recommended to be prepared for surgery if he blocks again, which costs another $8000+ , and none of these expenses are covered by Ico’s insurance. Please, I am reaching out to my family, my community, Ico’s community, for any amounts of support to help me cover Ico’s medical expenses. Ico is my little boy, my family—we’ve lived and traveled across the world together. We don’t want to give up. We will appreciate anything. There’s no other way for me to go about this than to do everything I can to help him. My venmo is renel-sun. If you’d be able to donate even a little we would be so grateful for your support!
