How did we get here??? This is my sister Jen and her husband Rich, happily married one year and very much in love. Rich came into our lives 3 years ago, a hardworking great guy who is head over heels for my sister and niece, Olivia. He filled the father role and was happy to be loved so much by Jen and Liv. He jumped right into our family, loving my sons, and becoming a brother to me. A day after they celebrated their 1 year anniversary, about 8 weeks ago, he went for a chest xray for a sporadic cough he had developed. Now this is a healthy fit man who owned his own lawn service, cutting 15 lawns a week, (not on a riding mower, a push one like we use). Never smoked, he is diagnosed with Metastatic Lung Cancer, Stage 4???? Their world began to change immediately, Oncology, Hospitals, abnormal blood work, and more. Now, with “too many tumors to count “ per radiologist, this cancer has spread to both lungs and lymph nodes between the lungs. Surgery and radiation are not options due to the metastasis. He just had lung catheters put in so my sister will drain his lungs, as they are filling and need release every 3-4 days. I have witnessed the change, his exhaustion, weight loss, Rich only goes out to appointments, no more walks at the dog park for them, closing his lawn care business, Olivia draws pictures so he can feel better, how did we get here?? If you know me, my sister is my best friend. What is happening to her family is happening to my family. Yes, we all know of cancer, experiencing the pain and destruction it causes, now it’s in our family and the only thing to do is help in anyway we can. My sister went to her church, her daughter’s school, asking for help, so far nothing. The bills are coming, medications, mortgage, tuition doesn’t stop because your sick and don’t have the money. We can’t stop this mental anguish they are going through but why do they have to worry about all this too? Please help my family, in anyway you can, any donations will help and show them we care and will be there for them. You may not know Rich, but you know me and my sister, this is the time to be there for them, Thanks Megan Walsh Schnalzer
