Hey my name is Lauren Rathburn, I’m 25 and my husband is David Rathburn (26) we got married in 2024 and like any couple wanted to have a baby. We interviewed doctors and high risk doctors because of some clotting factors I had. Once we found one our trying to conceive journey started. After several months of new medications, testing, lovenox shots. We found out we were expecting June 1st (David’s Birthday) we were over joyed. Flash forward to the June 22nd, I woke up to super light spotting but after getting more test the baby was doing fine on sonogram and growing fine heart rate was 20 beats lower than they wanted but figured my gestation she must be off…they even thought the baby could have been splitting into identical twins but they were going to confirm the next appointment. doctor was sure I was having a miscarriage but confirmed after a HCg draw it was not the case. No more blood or cramps everything was perfect. Monday the 26th we went to check on the baby again and everything was fine. Until Tuesday morning(7/27)I got a call that my HCG was not rising as fast as they wanted anymore and asked if I could be at the hospital in 30 minutes for an emergency sonogram. David was working but my mom went with me. As we got there the sonogram tech looked for 40 minutes and no heart beat or baby. We were told we needed an emergency d&c the next day since I am at a high risk of hemorrhaging. We got to the hospital at 12 on the 28th started the d&c at 5 and before my doctor could start she punctured my uterus and could not continue. After seeing the effects coming out of anesthesia was on me, we had to stay over night. The next day they just did observation on me, but then my new doctor wanted us to try putting me into active labor to help get the baby out. We started that active labor on Friday the 30th. I labor for 26 hours. Saturday morning they did another sonogram and baby was still there but you could tell we were close to being done. That is when everything changes. I got up to shower and all of the sudden my leg was purple. We called the nurse and doctor who ordered an immediate Doppler and turns out I had developed blood clots in both legs. The clots are very large, the one of the right is from my hip down and the left is from my knee down. My Doctor did an emergency d&c because at that point. We didn’t have a choice we needed to get blood thinner in my body which meant we had to get baby out. So I had emergency surgery last night. I will have another emergency surgery tomorrow morning the 3rd at 7 to remove the clots. That being said my husband and me are now out of work and his job has refused to pay him since our child wasn’t “living”. Which brings us here, we both hate asking for help but people keep messaging asking how they can and honestly it would help tremendously knowing that I can be in the hospital and not worry about bills or losing my house or car. We are by no means asking you to send money but if you did we would be incredibly grateful as it would help give me time to actually heal properly and grieve. Thank you in advanced and God bless.
