Hello my name is Melanie and for those who don’t know me I am Renee’s oldest daughter. My mom is currently being evaluated at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington DC. Our medical journey began on June 12th when both me and my sister came to my moms house and she was extremely confused and disoriented to where she was, she has been suffering with seizures and this was all the signs and symptoms of that being the case. We had no idea the road this was leading us down. She has been to 3 different hospitals in the course of a month, undergoing home health treatments for an infection the doctors were not even 100% sure she even had. Things were getting better up until about Monday of this past week July 3rd, confusion again, disoriented the signs and symptoms were back and they were worse, home health nurse recommended we go back to the hospital. St. Mary’s did absolutely nothing and sent her home. After talking to my sister, her primary care doctor as well as a infectious disease doctor in my medical group I work for, we came with the decision to send her to Georgetown. They were the only ones listening to any of us. She was admitted Wednesday night and things are still very very confusing but she’s showing all signs and symptoms of auto immune encephalitis. There’s actually a movie on Netflix called “Brain on fire” this is almost to a T what we have been dealing with. The terrible part is that even with treatment it may be permanent with having very little short term memory. On top of months of treatment, physical therapy and various other expenses. we live in southern Maryland about an hour and half from the hospital. I am never one to ask for help but with these extremely rare conditions I am. We would all greatly appreciate anything to help with her medical expenses, gas getting up here, food, the parking fees. Anything would be greatly helpful. I have been leaning on god tremendously these past 30+ days and I believe in the power of prayer. Please pray for my mother and god bless absolutely anyone who is able to help us in the time of need. once things are confirmed I will gladly update on here. thank you from the bottom of my heart and her whole families
