My sibling, Emma Wood, sustained a bucket-handle meniscus tear at work on 6/22/23. This kind of injury causes the knee to lock and is extremely painful. Emma underwent surgery to repair their meniscus within about a week of the injury, and it was successful. The recovery after a meniscus tear repair is not quick or easy. They are unable to put weight on the affected leg and require a brace for 6 weeks. Emma has a long journey of physical therapy ahead to get back on their feet but they are also facing financial stress until then. Emma’s doctor has told them they cannot work for about 3 months. They have been out of work since the initial injury and without an income it has added another heavy layer of stress. Emma filed for workers' compensation since the injury occurred at work, however, they were denied. They also filed for unemployment since they had been placed on unpaid leave at their place of employment due to their inability to work but were also deemed ineligible. As you can imagine, this has left Emma in a tough spot. Emma is facing financial strain and I am putting this LFEBridge for them to help lessen the stress of bills and other expenses while they are on their journey to recovery. In order to receive unemployment, Emma must be actively seeking a job and able to perform the job responsibilities. Remote jobs are the only way to work until Emma is able to bear weight on their leg. The biggest barrier to a remote job at this time is a working and reliable laptop. The money raised in this fund will also go towards buying Emma a new laptop to be able to apply for remote job opportunities during this difficult time. Anything helps! Thank you, Sara Wood
