In September of 2024, Ben Martin, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Glioblastoma. He is only 48 years old. He has 3 Children. Dylan is 23, Olivia is 21 and Colby is 11 years old. This is the deadliest form of brain cancer there is. That same month he underwent surgery to remove as much of the tumor as possible. He did weeks of radiation and oral chemo. On May 12, 2024 he learned that the tumor had started growing again and June 5, 2024, underwent his second surgery to remove as much tumor as possible once again. This would be the last time they would be able to remove any more and found out he was no longer a candidate for radiation. On June 20, 2024, Ben had to be taken by ambulance to Greenville Memorial Hospital. He found out that the bone flap where he had the previous surgery had gotten infected. Once again, they had to go in to remove the infection. He was in the hospital almost a week getting IV antibiotics. He is still having to get IV antibiotics twice a day. Ben has been accepted by Duke to see if they can come up with a treatment plan that they do not offer here. He has an appointment on 7/12/2024. We are hoping and praying that this will prolong his time here with us. Ben has always been a hard worker and supporter of his family. He has never had any type of assistance and for that we are grateful. Due to his health, he has had to leave his job at G.E. in Greenville, SC, where he was a Welder since July of 2000. Before that he worked at B.F. Shaw in Laurens, SC and he was there even when he was in high school until he went to G.E. He has filed for Disability but as we all know that takes time. Medical Expenses and Bills do not stop. He received his last full check a few weeks ago from his job and is now on short term. His daughter Olivia has quit her job to stay at home with him as he needs assistance currently. If you feel led in your heart to donate any money, gift cards (food, gas, restaurants) nothing is too small. If you would like to give a gift card please reach out to Olivia Martin on Facebook messenger. We as his family and friends appreciate all the prayers and any assistance that you may want to give. It is very hard for us to have to make this go fund me, but currently, it is very necessary. May God Bless each and everyone of you and please continue to pray for Ben. We will keep you all updated as we know information.
