Hi my name is Darren Thorpe and I'm fundraising for my son Amarre. He along with my daughter, Journey, has Sickle Cell. We had very little issue with his disease until around Covid hit and shut everything down. Amarre or AJ as we call him was very active and athletic. Always working out and trying to eat right to get the "Goku Body" (Character from Dragon Ball Z) he wanted. Overtime things changed dramatically and we noticed he was having a big spike in the number of crisis he would have. My wife and I went from maybe 2 crisis a month to about 1-3 crisis a week. This was very alarming to us as we still was learning everything regarding Sickle Cell. He started to lose weight and he wanted to do less and less activities due to this. Most of his pain would be in his lower back, legs, arms, and chest. We began looking at ways to cure his sickle cell as his Doctor told us there was a way, but we needed a bone marrow donor that would match. We would all check to see if we were a match to him. Thank God our eldest son Malachi was a 100% match for Amarre and our daughter Nova was a 50% match to Journey. Now we begin the process of trying to cure him and its not an easy road by any means. He will have to undergo Chemotherapy before his transplant first. After his transplant he will need 24hrs of supervision. This will require a lot from myself and my wife as we both work. She will be taking time off and to make sure we can have total coverage throughout his recovery I will also need to take time off some days reducing our income. We are in the beginning stages currently and testing on both Aj and Malachi have already begun. We are looking at the transplant taking place late July 2024 or early August 2024. I'm asking for help so that we can at least for the next 6 months make ends meet. The healing process will take up to a full year for recovery. Please if you can help it will be greatly appreciated. All Funds will go towards our bills (Rent) So that we will not have to worry about keeping a roof over our heads during this long process. I will update every chance I get and if anyone else is in need of Sickle Cell information or how you can also donate to others please reach out to me with any questions. Thank You All And God Bless Thorpe Family
