Hi everyone, My name is Cameron, and i'm creating this fundraiser on behalf of a dear friend (a black queer musician and community organizer) who is being forced out of their apartment next month. This week, with no warning my friend and their roommate received notice from their landlord that their building will be going on sale and that tenants have until September 1st to relocate, or face a large rent increase and a new, precarious, month-to-month lease. This notice comes with no prior warning, only 9 months into their initial rental agreement. Rather than stay in a situation where they are left at the mercy of a landlord who will kick them out at a moment's notice (and face an increased rent that they cannot afford), the two are looking to move immediately before the rent increase takes effect. This, however, has placed my friend, who has already been working overtime to pay off debt and keep their head above water, in the incredibly tight spot of having to not only find a new place last minute in the brutal New York/New Jersey housing market, but to also try and do so without going even deeper into debt. So, in order to lend them a hand, I'm turning to our communities for support. They have asked to stay anonymous, but I can wholeheartedly say I don't know many folks that deserve the support more. As a community organizer, they have done vital work both in creative and social justice capacities to make their people feel safer and affirmed. They're someone that doesn't hesitate to go to bat for others when they need it, and I hope that we can do the same for them. They are far away from home and family here, so we're all that they've got right now. Below is a breakdown of what your donation will be going towards. These items will help ensure that not only can they safely secure a new place, but also provide extra financial support for them as they get back on their feet after navigating this whole situation. To help sustain them beyond this point of crisis. Moving Expenses -Brokers fees -Security Deposit -First Months Rent -Moving truck -Potential storage unit rental in case a new apartment hasn't been secured by September 1st and temporary housing is needed Other Living Expenses -Groceries -Credit Card debt assistance Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. We really appreciate your help!
