Hello, my name is Valentin. I am a 24-year-old male. I was diagnosed with Adult acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in November of 2024. I had a rough start to having chemotherapy. In December of 2024, I suffered from a brain hemorrhage that led to a seizure. When I had a seizure, it forced me into a coma and then triggered a stroke. I was in a three-day coma while my body tried to heal itself. It took me a couple of months to be able to do things on my own. With the help of my wife, I was able to feel confident enough to keep moving forward. There were some complications with some of the chemo medication that put me back in the hospital in 2024. Everything started going well until the end of 2024 when I lost my insurance with Medi-cal. I had to fight to get my insurance back for six months. They denied me with an unclear notification by mail. Without insurance, I was unable to continue my treatment at my cancer center. In February of 2024, the accounts were officially closed for Medi-Cal so I could get a different insurance. In March of 2024, I officially have insurance. I got insurance just in time for my routine bone marrow biopsy to see where I was before starting my chemotherapy again. As of March 7th, I am no longer in remission. Unfortunately, my cancer has come back. Within a couple of days so far, I am still battling insurance due to my cancer center not being in the network. I could not sit around and wait while my cancer grew. The only way I would be able to be seen as soon as possible to get a hold of my cancer status and keep it low was to admit myself to the hospital due to it being life-threatening. The insurance I have will not cover a majority of my chemotherapy and most of the medications that I need. My wife and I will have to pay out of pocket for most of my hospital stay and the medications/ treatments. Thank you for taking the time to read my journey of having cancer, being in remission, and relapsing. It has been very stressful to get everything situated after constantly being knocked down by anything and everything.
