Hi, my name is Brandy. My 18 yr old son whom just graduated high school in June 2024. He was diagnosed with crohn's at the age of 8. We have been battling it ever since. A recent flare up landed us in Charlotte and found out that the disease wasn't Crohns at all but UC. It had gotten so bad that they had to do an emergency removal of his colon in a 3 step surgery. 1st one they just removed his colon and he is now in recovery trying to get better to come home. They will be building him a j-pouch which will require 2 more surgeries. He now has a temporary ostomy bag and will for the next 6 months or so, till he heals and they go back in and to build the pouch then lastly the 3rd to put the stoma back in. It will be a long road. 1st step recovery from #1. We have now been in the hospital for 16 days. He is doing a great job but I will add this is a major life changing surgery! Maybe after all is said and done he will know what it feels like to live without pain. 10 years of pain and no answers. We are coming out of the valley now and climbing that upward hill.
