Just one month after graduating from Cornell and a week after celebrating his 5th birthday, our beloved Franklin was diagnosed with malignant osteosarcoma in his front arm. Osteosarcoma is a very aggressive bone cancer that is common in larger breeds of dogs and spreads quickly through the bloodstream. Despite having an aggressive tumor in his arm, Franklin showed us again just how tough he is as he barely displayed any symptoms or let us know he was in pain. The Haberstock’s (Franklin's adoptive family) first noticed a slight limp less than 2 weeks ago and took him to the vet to be checked out. Given how quickly this disease spreads, we were immediately faced with some really tough decisions. The vet and those closest to Franklin, including multiple grades of Dog Boys who cared for him during his time at Cornell, have decided that he will be happiest pursuing “comfort care.” This route will allow Franklin to be as happy as possible with the least pain for his remaining days with us. Although the timeline is uncertain, the vet believes Franklin will have about 2-6 weeks left of a happy and comfortable life. The moment he can no longer enjoy life, we will put our sweet boy out of his pain. We are focused on giving Franklin the best possible days of his life, however many that may be. The Haberstock family is doing everything possible to the last chapter in Franklin’s life as best as can be and will fill his remaining days with: • Visits from those he loves most • Swims in the lake • Lots of pup cups • Joy rides with his head out the window • Steak dinners • His favorite toys • Mud baths • Belly rubs • Treats • And anything else his heart desires… Franklin has touched the lives of so many people, bringing joy and comfort to all who he crosses paths with. Now it is our turn to give back to Frank. The process of diagnosis and the ensuing care required to make sure Franklin’s final days with us are pain-free is one that comes at a cost. We aim to raise $7,000 to cover Franklin’s outstanding medical expenses and the medications he needs to stay comfortable in his remaining time. All donations will go towards giving Franklin the care he needs so we can return the favor of how many smiles, laughs, and good times he has provided to us during his too-short but full life.
