News Coverage: Parents of baby Grecia had to return her. Grecia's parents are devastated. Telemundo Teleonce Grecia Sepúlveda Abreu, my niece’s baby, was born with a genetic condition that causes her bones to be fragile. Last November, during a routine doctor’s visit, an X-ray revealed some fractures in her ribs. Without any investigation, the protective child services agency in Puerto Rico took the baby away from her parents because they believed that she was being abused. On June 20th 2024, after an 8 month long legal battle for custody the baby was returned. The judge in the case wrote a 27 page judgment in favor of the parents to keep custody of their child, and made it clear that the agency had no evidence to prove that the fractures were the result of child abuse. However on June 28, 2024, the agency filed a motion to appeal the judge's decision and Grecia was once again taken away from her parents. We know that Grecia is not being abused by her parents. And the court trial has been heart-wrenching, expensive and devastating to all of us. En noviembre pasado, durante una visita médica de rutina, una radiografía reveló algunas fracturas en sus costillas. Sin ninguna investigación, el Departamento de la Familia en Puerto Rico le quitó a la bebé a sus padres porque creían que estaba siendo abusada. La bebé fue devuelta a sus padres el pasado 20 de junio de 2024 después de una batalla legal por custodia de casi 8 meses. La jueza en el caso redactó una sentencia de 27 páginas a favor de que los padres mantuvieran la custodia de su hija y dejó en claro que la agencia no tenía pruebas para demostrar que las fracturas fueron el resultado de abuso infantil. Sin embargo, el 28 de junio de 2024, la agencia presentó una moción para apelar la decisión de la jueza y Grecia fue nuevamente separada de sus padres. Sabemos que Grecia no está siendo abusada por sus padres. El juicio ha sido desgarrador, costoso y devastador para todos nosotros.
