Hi, my name is Emilee Binder, and I’m fundraising for Tyler Jorgensen’s medical expenses on behalf of my boyfriend, Tyler and his family. Tyler and I had been planning a trip to Montego Bay, Jamaica which we were very excited about. We arrived in Jamaica on Monday, July 3rd and had planned a couple of excursions during our stay; one of them being a cruise to another side of the island. We went on this cruise on July 5th and had so much fun until the last few moments. When we were nearly back to shore, the boat hit a huge wave that shot Tyler up in the air, and when he crashed back down, he hit the ground so hard that he suffered multiple fractures to his femur and head trauma, including a huge gash on his forehead. For most of the next 14 hours, he went without any real medical assistance or pain medication. It took that long for us to get him transported to a legitimate hospital where they could wrap his leg, stabilize him and begin treatment to prepare for surgery. Tyler finally got surgery on July 7th; however, he’ll have to stay in the hospital for several more days before the doctors can release him to fly back home. Any medical treatment for tourists must be paid in full before hospital staff is willing to help. Being young and healthy, we never considered buying traveller's medical insurance. So far, all his medical costs have been paid via credit cards and loans totalling approximately $60,000 USD. Tyler has a long journey ahead of him, including doctor visits and physical therapy. We are all so heartbroken and praying for a speedy recovery. His passion is cooking, and he is a trained professional chef working on his feet all day. He’ll be out of work for at least the next two months, possibly longer, and he may have to consider making a career change. This devastating freak accident is about to change his whole world. Despite all that has happened in the last few days, Tyler remains gracious and kind, blaming no one, and grateful for all the love and support he has already received. He has been more worried about how this affects those closest to him than himself. We plan to use the funds to pay for his current and ongoing medical expenses and help Tyler with any additional costs while he is out of work. Any financial assistance will help make a difference, but prayers are most appreciated.
