Our dad, Medardo Hipolito was found unresponsive by my niece on the morning of 29 July and was brought to our little town’s equivalent of an Urgent Care where he was found to have blood sugars of >500. He was immediately transported by ambulance to the region’s hospital and was directly admitted to the ICU. Prior to this, his blood sugar was controlled by diet so there was no need to be on medications so this took us all by surprise. Since his admission, he has had ventricular tachycardia, was noted to have chronic brain infarct among other things, and has been in a coma. He is on multiple IV drips to manage all of his symptoms. My parents have little to no emergency funds and medical care in the Philippines can be exorbitant because there is no healthcare insurance system in place so all medical expenses are paid out of pocket. As you can imagine, he has amassed an astounding amount of medical bills since his admission and we are beside ourselves on how to pay for his care:. Much as it pains and embarrasses us to ask for help, we have no recourse but to do so. Please give any amount you can. It will mean so much to my family to be able to appreciate time with our dad without having to worry about where to get the funds to pay for all of this, Above all though, we ask for your prayers and support to help us get through this difficult time. Gratitude and many blessings to you. Very sincerely, Liza Kaufman Lynn Hipolito Dey Hipolito Arnold Hipolito
