"In the end, we all become very good stories" Margaret Atwood Telling a story is a great way to connect with an audience and the perfect way to tell CHANGES that happen in our lives. My name is Luis Granja, married and a proud father of three kids. Professionally, I´m an IT Project Manager in a Portuguese company. Now at 44 years old, I decided I needed a hobby, my eldest son was already learning how to surf, and I decided to join him. Beginning of 2024 my life was going well, until one morning when I went surfing in Carcavelos Beach (Lisboa), suddenly when catching a wave, I fell off my surfboard, my head was the first thing that hit the floor, immediately I felt that something was wrong with my neck, like broken and that weird feeling that my body was softly disappearing away. Still, underwater I realized that my life had CHANGED forever. The accident was a shock to me and had a major impact on my wife, kids, brother, parents’ and friends' life My surgery was performed at Hospital Egas Moniz, where I stayed for three months recovering, then I was transferred to Clínica de Alcoitão for intensive therapy. So far I have been making good progress and meeting the doctor’s expectations. Six months later, I can say life goes on however in a very different way. Beyond the massive emotional impact, now there is the huge financial impact that keeps me awake at night and is my top priority. Our house needs to be adapted for a reduced mobility person, so does the car and without forgetting we are 5 people in our house and we all have needs too. Challenged by a very good friend, together we decided to create a crowdfunding campaign to help me to raise money and overcome some of the challenges. All the money collected in this campaign will be used for this. This accident will always be part of my life and there is nothing to be ashamed of. To face it, the best way is to ask for help.
