On July 21, 2024, Liam Tankard and his family dog were struck by either a black GMC Yukon XL or Ford Expedition Max while crossing at the crosswalk on Main Street in Whitehouse Station. Liam was taken to the hospital and released, while their family dog was taken to the local emergency vet (Crown Vet), where he died of internal bleeding. In the past day, Liam went to the orthopedic surgeon, where it was determined that he needs surgery immediately to correct an injury to his finger, which was broken during the accident. He needs surgery immediately to attempt to correct this injury before it is permanent, and may require a second surgery depending on how well his hand recovers from the first surgery. He will require extensive therapy for his hand to recover complete mobility and strength. Because NJ is a no fault state, and because the criminal is still at large, the Tankards will have to use their own resources to make sure that Liam gets the medical care that he needs. At this point, they have been told this incident must be filed through their car insurance, rather than their medical insurance, even though their own car was not involved. This will likely result in higher premiums, and lots of red tape and frustration for a situation they did not cause. The Tankard family will also continue to deal with the incredibly sad loss of their dog, as well as the bills related to trying to save his life at Crown Vet. Please consider donating to this family, or sharing this gofund me. Every little bit helps! **Also, please be on the lookout for the car mentioned, and note that the Readington Police have included a Ford Expedition Max, in addition to the Yukon XL as possible vehicles that hit Liam.
