As many of you close to Alex have already heard my son was diagnosed with stage II adenocarcinoma lung cancer in the right middle and right lower lobes. On May 8th he went to his primary care physician for a cold/cough that he could not shake and after a long conversation he convinced his doctor to take X-RAYS. Shortly after while at home he Received a phone call stating that they found a mass in his right lung. From there doctors urgently got him in for a CT scan with contrast. The scan confirmed there was a 4.3cm×3.1cm mass in his right lung. The same day he was referred to a pulmonologist who immediately scheduled a biopsy through a bronoscopy. The biopsy confirmed cancer, adenocarcinoma in the right lung. This news was devastating to himself and his family. Following the diagnosis a flood of scans followed, MRI brain/skull scan, PET scan, CT scans and oncology visits. During this time Alex was unable to work due to the nature of his illness and will remain on leave until the recovery is over. July 5th, Alex was seen at the University of Iowa hospital clinics. Alex was immediately scheduled July 14th for thoracotomy, bi-labectomy(the removal of his right middle and right lower lobes, 60% of his right lung.) Alex will be staying at the University of Iowa hospital for 5-6 days, 24-48 hours of this in the ICU, AND A 3-4 month recovery and Chemotherapy to follow to make sure it doesn't come back. Causing a hardship on his family, Kimmy, Jace, Grace, Faith, and Liam who will all feel the pain of Alex's cancer surgery and treatments. Those of you that know Alex knows that he will do anything for his family and friends. The strain this will put on Kimmy financially while Alex is unable to work due to his recover will be hard to overcome, she is holding them all together and giving it her all. Let us all embrace my son's family in their time of need and help their family overcome the monthly living costs and the ever mounting hospital bills. Please join myself in providing a monetary gift to a great person, loving father, and most of all a loving and caring son. GOD BLESS YOU ALL MOM
