Hello my name is Tony Dunn. I am the father of Nikki Dunn. Nikki is a young single mother of 3 young children. Just over a week ago Nikki woke up to chronic back pain and numbness in the saddle region. She was rushed to port base hospital via ambulance. At hospital they did a MRI scan and found a disc in her back had ruptured into her spinal cord. She was then rushed via air ambulance to John Hunter hospital for emergency back surgery. After arriving at John Hunter they found Nikki had a rare condition called Cauda Equina syndrome. Cauda Equina syndrome is a rare condition that involves a disc rupturing into the nerves in her spinal cord. It causes numbness of her bladder bowels and exterior of her saddle region. Nikki underwent a intensive 5 hour surgery where they cut out a bit of her spine and then removed the ruptured disc relieving the pressure on her spinal cord and nerves. Nikki now needs to undertake intensive rehabilitation in port Macquarie. She is unable to work for roughly 4-6 months and may never gain back the feeling she has lost. We are trying to raise money for her family for every day living as she is now unable to work and cover costs to John Hunter for check up appointments and the costs of rehab $350 each appointment and the many trips to hydrotherapy that Nikki now needs to undertake. Can you please spare just $5 to help this young family overcome the huge hurdle they are facing.
