This is being shared by Jim & Carol Ostrom and Kerry & Janet Walsh on behalf of our children Daniel and Melanie. Daniel and Melanie were pregnant with a son expecting to deliver in mid January. Things were progressing normally until, on October 18th, 3 months premature, Melanie suffered a catastrophic medical crisis that required an emergency delivery of the child and desperate measures to save Melanie. Our grandson, Aiden Oliver Ostrom came into the world 3 months premature weighing just 2 pounds – 6 ounces. Aiden was immediately transferred to a hospital with a neonatal intensive-care unit (NICU) where he will face daily challenges as he matures outside the womb. Melanie and Daniel followed Aiden the following day when she was stablized. While things seem to be steadily improving for Aiden there have already been some bumps in the road. The past 10 days have been an emotional roller coaster for all of us as the reality of the fragility of life and the complex challenges Aiden faces settles in.For at least the next 3 months Melanie and Daniel will be living at the hospital working with Aiden and the NICU staff. The families have jumped in wherever possible to support them. Several friends have asked how they can help and have suggested a forum such as this be set up.Besides sending happy thoughts to the family the best way to help Daniel, Melanie and Aiden will be through your assistance in offsetting the significant unplanned expenses that have, and will continue to accrue as they move through the hospital process and with the challenges Aiden will face as he matures.Thank you for your love and support.
