When your girlfriend says “Babe, does this feel like a lump” it’s one of the scariest things a women can say. Liz had a mammogram and ultrasound and was told that she has two lumps that are both cancerous. She’s only 41. She then had a biopsy which confirmed the cancer diagnosis. She was technically diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. The hormone results are still pending therefore we don’t have all of the information as to the severity of this disease. She will have a long road ahead of her with many appointments, a surgery and treatments. After a two hour surgical consult, she left the office with a lot of information as well as a slew of medical appointments with a Medical Oncologist, Surgical Oncologist, Radiation Oncologist, Plastic Surgeon, Genetic Counselor and appointments for more tests. This is all very overwhelming for her. Liz had recently started her own business and this diagnosis, along with surgery and treatments, will take away from the time that she can work on building that business. She was a single mom for many years and has always been one to plan and make sure that all bills are covered no matter what life threw at her but this is a different type of can of worms. She has no idea where this journey will go, how long it’ll last and what’s in store for her. She’s worried about how bills will get paid. I’m doing all I can to take that worry away from her but I also want to have the opportunity to support her and take her to appointments and treatments. Liz is not one to ask for help as she always has the “I can do it on my own“ mentality, but I want to show her that she’s not alone.
