Hi, my name is Kade and Skip (they/them) is one of my best and closest friends. They're the sort of person I can always count on, who cheers me on and cheers me up, and who will show up with coffee--without hesitation--if ever I run out. Skip is also a parent and partner, and right now they're the sole provider for their family. They run their own business as a dog walker and pet sitter, of which they are the sole employee. Being self-employed means that they have no paid vacation or sick time. Recently, Skip was finally able to schedule "top surgery," a gender-affirming surgery which they have been waiting for for a long time. Their surgery is scheduled for September 20th of this year. However, unless I can help them raise the money they need to take time off from their job, they won't be able to keep their surgery date. Because Skip's job is often quite physical, they need to be able to take two months off to insure proper healing after their surgery. Skip's fundraising goal of $6,000 will cover two months of rent in their Seattle area apartment, utilities, food for their family, and a small buffer to cover other medical costs that may not be covered by their insurance. Skip has previously had to cancel two scheduled gender-affirming surgeries because they couldn't afford to take the time off. I'm sincerely hoping that in this case, "third time's the charm" and that Skip will be able to finally get this life-changing surgery. Skip is constantly giving to others, helping others, and putting others first. They deserve to be able to have this gender-affirming surgery, which will significantly improve their quality of life. Every little donation helps! Thanks, Kade (he/him)
