Robert Weaver, pictured here, is living with a condition called Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy. Myotonic dystrophy is characterized by muscle wasting and weakness. People with this disorder often have prolonged muscle contractions/cramping (myotonia) and are not able to relax certain muscles after use. Robert wasn't meant to see 20 years old but he has been fighting this condition, as he is now 42 years old. Growing up, Robert used to like to skate on the frozen water of Paul Lake, but soon realized he was unable to, due to his muscular dystrophy. The muscles on his ankles and legs would give way and he therefore, had to give up his passion. On May 16th of this year, due to Robert's condition, he fell down very hard and developed a brain bleed. What followed was a mild heart attack and pneumonia, 3 times in the span of a few months. He was transferred to Kelowna General Hospital from Royal Inland Hospital, due to nursing shortages. Laurie Weaver, his mother, has been by his side, throughout this whole ordeal. Her husband had passed from a brain tumor, February 2012, which left her as a single mother. She is currently in Kelowna with Robert but is requiring help with other expenses like housing, food and gas, to assist in the care of her ailing son. Any amount will help and Robert will surely appreciate any and all, thoughts and prayers while he continues his journey to health. Thanks again
