Hello, my name is Tyler DeBarr. Together with several others, this Go-FundMe account has been created on behalf of Shirley Rogers, a dear friend to many within our community. As some of you may know, Shirley has been diagnosed with an extremely aggressive cancer and is in need of our help! If you’ve had a chance to talk with Shirley in the most recent months prior to May 2024, I’m sure she told you of her recent battle of cancer that started in October 2024 and the victorious news that she won her courageous battle! Unfortunately, nearly 5 months later on May 1st of 2024, Shirley received news that she will be starting her second battle with cancer, only this time with different perspectives. Shirley and her family have made the decision to keep specifics of Shirley’s battle to a minimum. We ask to please respect their wishes in this matter. Currently, the most essential necessity is reliable transportation so Shirley can safely and consistently travel to Morgantown for treatment. The money raised will be used to purchase a vehicle to help offset travel expenses obtained from those treatments, medical supplies needed at home and the overall financial responsibilities faced when life-changing conditions such as this take place. Shirley and her husband Alan have been a part of the Preston County community for over 35 years. During that time Shirley and Alan have spent countless hours volunteering their time to local youth sports and have always been there to lend a helping hand. As somebody who has been involved with youth sports, I can attest to their time contribution to this community. No matter what sport, whatever the situation is / was, you can bet on Shirley & Alan always being there for you! There’s a good chance if you’ve had a child in youth sports around West Preston Schools, Shirley (Mrs. Shirley as the kids call her) has been on a first name basis with them at-least a time or two. Shirley has always had a passion for children. HarleyRae (18), Roamie (14), Sophie (11) and Adrianna (7) are among the youngest, and most recent of their children to participate in local youth league and school sports. Anybody who knows Shirley & Alan, knows their love and dedication to not only their children, but YOUR children. Mrs. Shirley was a parent volunteer coordinator for West Preston School for 25 years and dedicated her life helping the youth in need of specialized services in a public school setting. Shirley was excited to tell everybody of her plans to return to her position at West Preston School in the fall of 2024 and getting back to youth sports. Unfortunately, those plans have been placed on hold as her fight isn’t over. Most of you know Shirley but I’d like to take a minute and just let everybody know what kind of person she truly is. I’ve been a part of youth sports for over 10 years and it doesn’t matter if it’s football, basketball, baseball or if she knows a child is in need of anything, she’s there. You can’t find too many people like Shirley. Very simply put, if people like Shirley didn’t exist, neither would youth sports! We’ve been through a lot together with these kids and I wouldn’t change a minute of it. As many of you know, Shirley is somebody who never asks for much and in all honesty, had to be talked into letting us help with this. If you know Shirley, you know. ;) We ask, if you’re able to donate, please donate. If you’re not financially able to donate, Shirley specifically asked not to cause stress on your own personal finances to donate to her cause. (Again, if you know Shirley, you know). In closing, I’d like to ask each of you a favor. Shirley has expressed how much she misses hearing everybody’s voice and how much it makes her day to hear from people, we like to get as many people as possible to make a small video or audio clip and post it in the comments so Shirley can know exactly how much she means to us! If you’re camera shy, we understand, feel free to leave comments and we will be sure Shirley doesn’t miss any messages! For more information please contact Tyler DeBarr or Greg Wolfe on Facebook Messenger or message us directly on this Go-FundMe page. A special message from Shirley… “I love you all. Thank you all for doing this and thank you to everybody who donates or shares this for us. Alan and I can’t thank you all enough. - Take it to the Limit”.
