My name is Tia and I started this fundraiser for my son Shane who just turned 18 years old. Shane is in need of a prosthetic foot after suffering from a tragic accident. On February 4 2024, Shane got severe frostbite in his hands, legs and feet. He was rushed to MGH where he spent over 6 months having many surgeries to try and save his extremities. The team at MGH was amazing but after many infections and set backs, he still had to have his right foot amputated. He has been so strong and positive through this entire experience and it was a huge defeat to loose his foot. In August, he was sent to Spaulding Rehab Facility to start to regain strength in his arms, hands and his left leg. Once his right foot began to heal he was able to start work on building muscle, bearing weight and learning to walk again. The foot that was removed is not fully healed and Shane still continues with his after care and rehab at home as well as many doctor’s appointments. As soon as it does heal the process to make a prosthetic foot can be started. He continues to suffer from pain which prevents him from getting a job. I was also forced to take time off work to help care for him and be with him at the hospital and doctors visits. The bills have continued to pile up. I hate to ask for help but Shane and I are in need of it. I want my son to live a normal life after this accident and getting him a prosthetic foot will help with that. Insurance will only pay for 20% of the cost of this. Medical expenses continue to add up. Myself, Shane and Brooke thank you for taking the time to read this and appreciate any help you can give us.
