Hi family, friends, and welcome strangers! I am Katie and I am here to ask for your help in funding the purchase of a life-saving medical device for my sister, Karah Sullivan. As some of you know, my sister suffers from a rare neuromuscular condition called Congenital Myasthenic Syndrome. If you'd like to read about this disorder, you can find a lot of insightful information here: CMS- A Rare Disease In her case, she has limited mobility due to her inability to breathe independently for more than a few minutes at a time. As a result, my sister, is in bed, attached to her BiPAP 80% of the day, every day. Imagine what a life like this would look like for you. Due to a lack of research, funding, and overall awareness of the disorder, the insurance and medical industry cannot classify what she has as a qualification to receive a mobile ventilator covered by her insurance. This is where we can help... The device my sister requires to get back her life is called (ironically) the Life 2000 , it's a wearable, mask-free ventilator system that will allow her to move freely- paint, garden, play with the lovable Teemo (her dog), see her family and friends and just have a sense of normal life again. As you could assume, such a life-saving medical device, does not come cheap. The out-of-pocket purchase price of the Life 2000 machine is $21,600+. So I am here, asking for your help to help Karah. Any contributions, big or small, will help tremendously, as every penny will go towards funding this purchase and the sooner we can get the machine in Karah's hands, the sooner my sister will be able to live a happy, fulfilled life again. We thank you, we love you, and we appreciate you all so much.
