Hi, my name is Phil Flanagan. I am a United States Professional Tennis Association certified tennis professional, working full-time in South Florida since 1983. After 40 years of being a staff professional, junior coordinator, adult team coordinator, and Tennis Director I decided to scale back my time on the court, collect social security, and work part-time. For the last 18 months, I have enjoyed the change and the stress-free lifestyle. In April I developed a cough, not overwhelming, but persistent, and quite a nuisance. I was teaching tennis every morning for a few hours but on June 7, 2024, I saw my doctor and had a chest x-ray. My doctor sent me directly immediately to the emergency room where I was admitted with a collapsed left lung and a chest cavity full of fluid. After surgery and two chest tubes, my surgeon gave me the diagnosis of lung cancer. The goal then was to reduce the fluid in the chest, expand the lung, and then begin cancer treatment. Unfortunately, this has not been easy, and although I am finally home after 5 weeks in the hospital, I am far from being done with this fight. The fight is just beginning. As my monthly bills and medical bills pile up, and my income is limited to my social security, I find it necessary to reach out to friends and family to ease my financial burden. Your donation will be used to help cover my monthly living expenses plus the mounting medical bills. Any assistance from you is greatly appreciated. Help me fight this fight!
