On 6/24/2024, our dear friend, Raul Maniquis, was involved in a life-threatening accident while he was riding his motorcycle. As he was riding, a van turned in his path, striking him and throwing him off the bike. Raul was extremely fortunate that there happened to be a Lake County Sheriff's Deputy (Dwight Arrowood) nearby and was able to rush to help. By all accounts, this hero likely saved his life because of the amount of blood loss that had occurred. A Good Samaritan was also nearby and was able to stay with Raul and keep him calm by holding his hand and speaking with him until the ambulance arrived. In a strange coincidence, she had herself lost a son from a motorcycle fatality and said she felt her son had sent her. After making a tough but necessary decision, doctors amputated the lower portion of Raul's left leg, below the knee. The many other bruises will heal, but life will be a bit different now. The road ahead will be filled with challenges - mentally, physically, and financially. He also just recently retired from his long career as a teacher, and his insurance coverage will be changing in the upcoming month. With that said, we have decided, as a collective of Raul's friends and supporters, to show our support by creating this page. We hope this may allay some of the financial burden that will follow and the uncertainty of what lies ahead. A teacher, coach, husband, relative and friend, Raul has always been known to lend a helping hand. If you can, we are now asking you to help in this time of need. Raul probably wouldn't be up for this, but we can't always listen to "Ool", who likely wouldn't want to ask for help.
