My name is Cory. I am a below-knee amputee and have been since birth due to amniotic band syndrome. Throughout my life, I have had multiple surgeries and prosthetics. These solutions never seem to work for long since the shape of my amputated limb and the lack of surrounding muscle. In October of 2024, I got a new prosthetic and was able to return to work. By February of 2024, I was having the same issues I had with the leg prior and was again moved to short-term disability while I spoke with doctors and prosthetists to find a more viable and long-term solution. At the appointment I had today(08/01/2024), after months of prototype prosthetics and attempted solutions that all ended in failure, we came to the solution that a through-knee surgery is the most viable and long-term solution. Short-term disability is coming to an end right as the surgery is being planned, talked about, and scheduled. All this to say; my family is trying to find a way to keep up with bills, pay for surgery, and pay for a prosthetic afterwords without me being able to return to work. State disability as well as long-term disability are being looked into and worked on while my wife is continuing to work. Currently, I do not have an estimated quote for the pricing of the surgery and leg after the insurance but I will update it as information is fed to me. Anything is helpful and greatly appreciated.
