Our mom, Paula, has been struggling with health issues for years and years. She’s been doing everything she can to stay healthy, but around April her body decided it had enough and she got super sick. For a while we tried to keep her at home, but her safety was jeopardized because she wasn’t able to independently take care of herself. She finally went to the ER where we discovered just how bad her condition was. At first they thought maybe she had cancer, but that was ruled out (thank goodness), and she has been officially diagnosed with lupus. She also has a condition called gastroparesis where her stomach isn’t able to digest food as quickly as it should. Through this whole process her body became so malnourished that we almost lost her multiple times. It has all been very scary and very overwhelming. She is currently on a feeding tube and staying at a rehabilitation center. She still can’t eat very well, and she can’t walk independently on her own. She needs to stay at this center until we all feel comfortable that she’s strong enough and safe enough to be home on her own. As you can imagine, medical bills are piling up very quickly. The rehabilitation center costs $400 a day, and that doesn’t include food or the therapies that she needs. Insurance won’t pay anymore. Our church has graciously helped us as much as they can. And now it’s time to reach out to our wonderful family and friends for financial assistance. We need our sweet mom to get better, and being at this center is the best chance she has. If you could help us, that would be amazing!
