My mother-in-law Ola is one of the strongest people I know; a woman of fierce independence who was already enjoying a well-deserved retirement. Despite having run a Wrocław bistro for a good forty years she still loves to cook, especially baking cakes that are rightly famous among family, friends, neighbours, and an ever-expanding part of lower Silesia. She loves travelling, both in Poland and elsewhere in Europe. Since our daughter was born, she’s been a frequent visitor to Oxfordshire on extended stays to help look after her. She has five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She has been in a happy relationship for almost forty years. Many years ago, Ola underwent major surgery due to an abdominal aortic aneurysm. In April this year, she was hospitalised due to acute ischemia of the right leg. She has since then undergone three amputations, with the last one ending in hip disarticulation. Despite all this, she remains her usual fiercely funny, resolute, quick-witted self. Between amputations, she has been bravely practising transferring herself from bed to wheelchair. She’s currently still in bed in hospital, but we hope she’ll be heading home soon to start her rehabilitation. This fundraiser will be added to the original Polish one and is for half of the total target. For reference, the original is here, but might be tricky to donate to unless you speak Polish: https://www.mammoc.pl/aleksandra-lebioda?fbclid=IwAR3dU5MfcOlUHT9j9-MOWY751tKqxJWs8XuJYKA_Ma9KUNik2U17Pl7SxY8 The money from this fundraiser will be spent on a prosthetic leg, an electric wheelchair for her to cause havoc, adapting her bathroom and kitchen, and rehabilitation equipment. Separately we will be paying the ongoing monthly medical costs for medication, care and rehab. We know times are tough, and we truly appreciate any help you can give us by donating or spreading the word. Thank you Si & Jola
