Hello, I am Drew, and I am fundraising for my daughter, Natalie. My daughter, Natalie, is 11 years old, and developed Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) in May of 2024. She went from playing volleyball, running, and jumping around like a normal kid; to losing her ability to walk due to tics and muscle spasms overnight. FND is characterized by tics, muscle spasms, shaking, and extreme soreness in the muscles. At times, Natalie functions nearly normally, but much of the time, she doesn't have enough control to stand and walk, which confines her to a wheelchair. Natalie has been to local Tyler hospitals multiple times, and has been to Children's in Dallas twice and Cook Children's once, both as inpatient. Neither hospital would keep her to work with her on any type of therapy to help her walk because they "didn't see a need." Each hospital sent Natalie home, where there are no therapies available for FND cases. FND requires therapeutic specialists in that know how to treat the disorder. Typical physical therapies are designed to rehabilitate the muscle. Natalie's muscles are strong. Physical therapy, if it is not FND specialized, can hurt Natalie, causing more pain, and possibly impeding motor function rather than increasing it. Kids who get this specialized treatment early enough improve pretty quickly, and most recover. The problem is, we cannot find anyone offering this therapy in our area, or even in all of Texas. We have found and interviewed a place that specializes in helping kids recover from FND in California. Natalie's insurance does not cover out-of-network at all. So if Natalie is going to get the treatment she needs to make a full recovery, we need the help of your donations. Funds donated here will go first to cover Natalie's intensive three to four week treatment, which is estimated around $12K. Anything over that will go to offset food, lodging, and travel expenses for Natalie and her mother while they are there. We hope that there will be a Ronald McDonald House available to save on lodging. Also, Natalie's mother will be unable to work for that period of time, so some expenses will need to be paid back home. There are so many details I plan to add in the future, but for now I need to get this started quickly. The $2800 deposit is required to begin therapy, and we want to begin ASAP, as that will give us the best chance of a successful outcome. Thank you so much for your contribution to help Natalie get back on her feet. Recovery is possible with the right treatment. She NEEDS this.
