Hi! I’m Makayla. My daughter Natalie is 11 years old and developed functional neurological disorder (FND) in May 2024. She went from playing volleyball and running and jumping around to developing tics and losing her ability to walk on her own overnight. We have been to Dallas children’s hospital twice as inpatient and cook children’s hospital once as inpatient. Neither hospital would keep her to work on her lack of walking abilities because they didn’t see a need. They sent us back home every time where we do not have access to the specific therapies Natalie needs or the duration/intensity. FND requires specialists that know the disorder because it’s not like other diseases or disabilities where you just rehab muscles. Natalie’s muscles are strong. Physical therapy if it’s not FND specialized only hurts and created more pain. Kids who get this specialized treatment soon enough improve pretty quickly and most recover. However, the intensive, specialized, FND specific treatment Natalie needs is not available in our area or even in Texas that I can find. we have found and interviewed with a place that specializes in helping kids recover from FND located in California. Natalies insurance does not cover out of network at all. So if Natalie is going to get treatment & have a chance to make a full recovery, we have to raise the money somehow. funds donated here will go first to cover Natalie’s intensive 3-4 week treatment which is estimated around 12k. My hope is to stay in a Ronald McDonald house to save on lodging. Extra funds will go toward lodging, driving out there, food, and paying my bills back at home while I am not able to be there to work. I will try to update this more later with more specifics but I want to get this started so we can give our 2800$ deposit to get her scheduled.
